The goal of our organization is to bring awareness to Pacific-based atrocities from World War II through arts-based education. As an organization, we believe that it is essential for our next generations to learn from this part of our shared world history. That is why we are on a mission to bring our successful arts-based education projects to public school classrooms here in San Francisco.
Chinese, Korean, Taiwanese, and many other ethnic groups that were victimized by the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II, still hold painful memories from this part of their past. With a large Asian American population here in San Francisco, this is the perfect place to begin educating our youth on a part of our shared world history that has been largely forgotten. The Asian American population in our local school system could greatly benefit from the inclusion felt through learning about the Pacific side of World War II, and why there may still be tensions between their elders.
Pacific Atrocities Education is a growing non-profit based out of Chinatown, focused on bringing awareness to wartime atrocities in the Pacific Asia region, such as comfort women, Bataan death march, Unit 731, Nanking massacre, helping survivors find closure and reconciliation for their painful memories and increasing dialogue about complex contemporary issues surrounding human rights worldwide.

What our past interns say about the program
"The internship at Pacific Atrocities Education has been a great experience for me. I’ve been able to improve my research and writing skills and get more experience working in a small nonprofit setting. I’ve been researching a range of topics, from the Japanese Imperial Government Disclosure Act to the major battles of World War II in the Philippines. My final project was researching the female guerrilla fighters of the Philippines’ resistance movement during World War II. Doing so much research on these topics has given me a much deeper understanding of the history of the Pacific region and the changing political environment that led to years of war in the 20th century. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to handle all the research expected of me, but by the end of the summer I was much more comfortable with my workload because I knew I had improved. I’m looking forward to heading back to school in the fall with my new skills and experience."

"I really enjoyed my time at PAE, and the things I did here have really benefitted me career-wise in the long run. I was working on the website to create categories tab and learned how to use HTML on the website. Pacific Atrocities Education created awareness on me about what happened in the past and more about world war two and its effects on the Pacific region. I learned from Jenny how to develop a website and how much hard work it is taking. It was my first time working on to reach press about our upcoming books. Even I had a chance to take a look at one of the books and I was impressed by the design of e-book. The internship helped me to learn how to improve website traffic and how to understand the readers' insights. Thanks to Pacific Atrocities Education, I met with some amazing people doing their best to create awareness about their specific topic. It was my first time writing a blog post about something and it encouraged me to start writing on my own about other topics. Thank you, Pacific Atrocities Education, for changing the way I see things and showing me new tools. This website is totally catching 2019 with their tools and designs!"
